why bunk bedrooms are my favorite room This holiday Season
In my opinion bunk bedrooms are an under appreciated room & get more attention during the holidays. When space is limited, where will you throw those last minute holiday guests your kids brought with them? A bunk bedroom! In many movies the bunk bedroom is depicted as a room that a hopeless kid has to reluctantly share with siblings. To this negative connotation I say “Bah Humbug!” A bunk bedroom should be a room where random sleepovers turn into life long memories with friends & family. A space where everyone stays awake together, deep into the middle of the night, all waiting to hear the pitter patter of reindeer hoofs. Dare I say, a bunk bedroom design might be one of my favorites to celebrate during the holiday season!? I dare!
What I like about this room is not only the awkward social experience that comes with the bunk bedroom, but that it lends itself to a design that is fun & playful. And well designed bunk bedroom should help cultivate the fun, & that playfully awkward feeling of sleeping in a bunk. Besides, did anyone really want to share one room together in the first place? Not to be a grinch, but the answer is most likely “No!” So I say you might as well make it feel like a fun space!
For this bunkbed I applied 2 fundamental design tricks to help it not only feel fun, but timeless & visually appealing. Besides, as they say, you can’t have Fun without Fundamentals!
The first element is scale. Scale & timeless design always go hand in hand. Even just studying scale & proportion takes time. When I start thinking of a bunkbed room, I focus on how the scale helps guide the sleeping arrangements & how that then guides the design. For a bunk bedroom, scale helps a designer consider your guest & how they can still feel comfortable, even in a more confined space. Similar to Santa going down that chimney!
The second element is pattern & color. Color can elevate a room and for this room I wanted to show its true “fun colors” so to speak. Color is the backbone of any design to help it feel inviting & is visually appealing. And, in my opinion, any bunk bedroom concept yearns for some amazing color. Besides, without color how much fun could even be had? For this design, I was inspired by a more typical festive holiday color scheme, greens, reds, & blues, mixed with geometrics. A combination that aims to give this room some cozy cheer.
While a bunk bedroom is more of a fun room for interior design, you might still be wondering.. “Is this the only reason you are telling us this room is your favorite room this holiday season?” While aiming to keep any holiday fun is a must, a more important lesson can be learned from the bunk bedroom. One of adaptability. A room where you & your co-bunkers, are forced to put your egos aside, throw some earplugs in & take that extra melatonin. A room where sleeping & its quality are dependent on everyone’s ability to adapt, together. Especially adapt while everyone does their best to keep a smile on their face.
And I feel that type of adaptability is always an important skill to harness, especially during the Holiday Season.

13 Halloween decorations that make any home spookier, year after year
Why is Halloween my favorite holiday? There are 3 primary reasons. First, people either love Halloween or hate Halloween. While I have met the occasional person who chooses to remain neutral on the holiday, the people I enjoy talking to the most are the ones that hold tightly to their opinions on this holiday. Either love or hate it. The second is that it’s a holiday where at its core, even just for a night, you can be whatever & whoever you want to be. And lastly, decorations & home decor are always a key component to bringing to life any fantasy world you might choose within your home. And what a better way to enhance a space than to give it some spooky accents & accessories?
This is the one time of year where you could encounter a spooky an assortment of circumstances while visiting friends, family & estranged neighbors. You could walk into their home & see a room full of cobwebs & floating candle sticks, speckled across the ceiling. Or a room with a ghostly piano playing by itself in the corner while just in front of it hangs a dusty self portrait of an old relative. Even the occasional runaway graveyard skeleton, helping its self to a quick shower in the spare bathroom.
But for anyone who’s house did not come pre-haunted & is in need of a some spookier decor, I have gathered a list of things I would recommend. These are some of my favorite timeless & fun spooky finds & ideas for this holiday season.
Porcelain Haunted House
Who doesn’t love a haunted house? A classic symbol of the untold scary story that lurks behind every corner & unopened door. For holiday home decorations, miniature villages are one of my favorite decoration tricks. A perfect way to make this idea spooky is to give it a haunted house twist with this porcelain miniature.

Hanging Air Plant Ceramic Ghost Pots

Plant decorative eye balls
I do not have a source for purchasing these, but I do have an easy craft idea on getting them made. All you need is air drying clay, acrylic paint, a stick or chop stick, & super glue. First you will form you eye balls into circles & let them dry. Then you will paint them & let them dry. Last you super glue your spooky eyes to a stick & stick them into your plants. Indoor or outdoor these add a fun monster vibe to any household succulent or plant.
Hear no evil, speak no evil, see no evil, skeleton book shelf decor
These 3 bookshelf skeletons are an obvious play on the Japanese wise monkeys. A reminder that even in the midst of spooky season, we can still focus on the good. I love the skeletal take on this concept & feel its a simple decoration that is easily added to any mantle or book stack.

Macrame Spider Web
Not to sound rude, but I would literally tear down a real spider’s house & replace it with this decoration. The hand made feel of this decoration gives it a cozier halloween vibe. And the puffball spider sewn onto the corner is the perfect creepy & cozy detail.

Recycled Skull Punch Bowl
This is a piece that will breathe life into your Halloween parties for centuries. The other element I love about this skull punch bowl decoration is that it’s made from recycled glass. I don’t have the largest brain in my skull, but I do know this world could benefit from more decorations made from recycled materials.

Twisted Twig Witch Hat
I personally see this twig witch hat sitting on a front porch, nestled in a planter, with some viney plant springing out from below it. It could also be a fun “top hat” addition to a tall pumpkin stack at your entry garden bed. A few spooky accents like this hat at the front of your home always keeps your halloween decorations hexingly classy & classic.
